Washington, D. C. Feb. 3. - Congressman Walsh, who returned this morning from his trip with the special congressional investigating committee, was advised by Genera Goethals’s office that no bids were received for salvaging the cargo steamer Port Hunter.
The department is considering accepting the suggestion made by the congressman several weeks ago that the cargo be thrown open to general salvage by any one who may desire to engage in the work and Colonel Yates, who is now in Boston, will probably conclude the necessary arrangements to this end in the near future. It is likely that fishermen who have heretofore engaged in this work may soon be able to resume operations, but possibly an adjuster for the government will be on hand to check up goods rescued. - Standard, 4th.
