Snowdrop the pig remains on the loose, with a Facebook thread on Islander’s Talk providing updates about the search.

Katrina Nevin, Snowdrop’s owner, brought three pigs from her home in Falmouth to her parent’s house in Edgartown on July 10. This past weekend, Snowdrop escaped and was last seen on Sunday wandering through yards in Edgartown before disappearing for multiple days.

“I don’t know where exactly to start looking,” said Ms. Nevin by phone with the Gazette on Wednesday.

Ms. Nevin said she’s been reading every comment on the Islanders Talk thread in hopes that new information will come to light. The last update came Sunday night, when one commenter said they’d seen Snowdrop get hit by a car on Edgartown-Vineyard Haven Road. Seeking more information became challenging as Ms. Nevin was not able to get in contact with the commenter.

“I just keep thinking, somebody will see this pig running through their backyard, and it hasn’t happened,” she said.

Ms. Nevin said the Island’s animal control services have helped tremendously in the search coordination efforts. Brian Welch of the Martha’s Vineyard Hunt Club also sent up a thermal camera drone, but has yet to detect any pig activity.

Snowdrop is a very affectionate pig who likes back scratches, Ms. Nevin said, but that doesn’t mean those who spot him should approach freely.

“Treat him like a loose hippopotamus,” she said.

Any Snowdrop sightings should be reported to Animal Control at 508-939-1782.
