There will be no lack of support for the Vineyard boys’ basketball team as they take on defending state champion Danvers in tomorrow’s Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletics Association state semifinals. In fact, the whole school has been given a half day off to watch the home team play at the TD Garden in Boston.

It’s a celebration, not a fundraiser
That was the story line in a recent news release from the Martha’s Vineyard Cancer Support Group, which will host an event this month for the pure reason of having a party. Called a Celebration of Survival and Support, the event will be held at the Portuguese American Club on Sunday, March 10. The party begins at 5 p.m. All are welcome; there is no admission fee and no auction.
They came ready for a rematch, and that's what they got. The Comet Pan-STARRS has caught the attention of professional and amateur astronomers around the world since it was first recorded by an automated telescope (the Pan-STARRS telescope) in June of 2011. Astronomers have been watching it through their telescopes for months as it moves into our solar system. Now it is time for sky watchers in the northern hemisphere to see it, hopefully without scopes.
Plans to move a Chappaquiddick house threatened by rapid coastal erosion took a step forward Tuesday when the Edgartown planning board approved a special permit for the first stage of the house move.
The board got its first look Tuesday at plans to relocate an 8,800-square-foot house at Wasque Point owned by Richard and Jennifer Schifter, as well as a guest house and garage. The Schifter property has been threatened by rapid erosion over the last year; the coastal bluff is now 50 feet away from a stone pool enclosure.
