Spring flowers are in bloom. Tuesday is the first of May when by tradition baskets are hung on your door and May pole celebrations and dances announce the arrival of spring. The baseball field hosted a youth baseball game and the tennis courts behind the field were also busy last Saturday, when shortsleeved shirts and shorts were the clothing of choice. Finally on Sunday and Monday Sunday we got some much-needed rain.

Just when you thought you knew how to eat right, the game changes once again.

Your town columnist isn’t about to change her game just yet, but she was lucky enough to attend a dinner party this past Saturday night at the Kennebec avenue home of raw foods domestic goddess Eva Rawposa.

Announcing Issac

Danielle Nickowal and Abraham Rendon of Vineyard Haven announce the birth of a son, Issac Micheal Rendon, born on April 23 at the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital. Issac weighed 7 pounds, 3.5 ounces at birth.

Welcome Silas

Sarah and Oberon York of Vineyard Haven announce the birth of a son, Silas Kano York, born on March 26 at the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital. Silas weighed 7 pounds, 8.5 ounces at birth and joins big sister Lilah.

We finally got the much needed rain this week. Even though it was dark and gloomy, the flowers, trees and grass were all saying thanks. Of course, now that the sun has come out things are getting greener and also growing a bit faster.

Track and field and girls’ lacrosse return to the Vineyard this week after several away games and meets, with the track team competing against Bishop Stang on Tuesday at 3 p.m. and the girls going up against Oliver Ames Monday at 3:30. Softball, boys’ tennis and boys’ lacrosse are also home this week.

Farmers’ Market Moves

The Oak Bluffs Open Market is on the move. The farmers’ market will relocate to Washington Park, between Our Market and the Ocean View Restaurant. The market will be held Sundays, beginning May 13 and continuing through Oct. 28. Market hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. during July and August.

Leadership Award

Owners and managers from South Mountain Co. of West Tisbury recently joined some 3,000 architects, builders and energy practitioners from around the Northeast for the Northeast Sustainable Energy Association’s annual conference in Boston.

Company president John Abrams was a keynote speaker and led a workshop at the conference, and director of engineering Marc Rosenbaum received the association’s professional leadership award, becoming only the third winner of the prestigious award.
