Housing Block Grant
Oak Bluffs and Tisbury have been awarded $615,909 for housing rehabilitation through a federal community development block grant announced by Gov. Deval Patrick. The towns will use the money to rehabilitate 18 housing units.
Magical Marionettes
Dan Butterworth and his Magical Marionettes perform today, July 25, at 6 p.m. at the Tisbury School for the community.
Bring your kids, bring your parents, for Mr. Butterworth travels the world with a menagerie of characters — all moving on his intricate stage, into the air, and right out into the audience.
After the show, he will offer a demonstration of the tricks that lie behind the effects, so be sure to stay for insight into a rare art form.
The evenings ahead are moonless. There is no interference from the moon until midnight or later. Tomorrow morning’s moon is in the last quarter phase. This opens the opportunity for a good evening of star hopping, looking for the constellations and what astronomers call deep-sky viewing.
Library Art Exhibit
Marianne Neill will be showing recent gouache paintings and pastels at the Chilmark Free Public Library from Saturday, July 26 through August 15.
The show can also be seen during library hours, every day except Sunday.
Puppets in the Garden
Puppets in the Garden is a special day for families to walk the paths of Polly Hill Arboretum and find puppet surprises among the trees. The program is set for Sunday, July 27, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the arboretum in West Tisbury.

Karen Achille, the children’s librarian, and her three assistants, Allison Brown, Colleen Morris, and Kristina Ivory, run a stellar program for the children in Oak Bluffs at the town library. How fortunate we are to have this great team. There can be no better use of taxpayer dollars than to support our world-class library.
Hello, Samuel
Kristen and John Weber of Jefferson City, Mo., announce the birth of a son, Samuel James Weber, on July 9. Samuel weighed 8 pounds at birth. His grandmother, Mary Ann Brock, lives in West Tisbury. Samuel also is welcomed by brothers Sean and Jackson, and sisters Christina, Sarah and Katelyn.
Deborah Colter Show
The original mixed media works of local Edgartown artist Deborah T. Colter will be featured in a solo show opening Saturday, July 26, at the Cousen Rose Gallery in Oak Bluffs. There will be an opening reception Saturday, July 26, from 5 to 8 p.m.

Connie Borde will be a super delegate at the Democratic National Convention in Denver. She attained that honor because of her position as vice chair of Democrats Abroad in France. The convention in August will be the third one she has attended as a delegate.
