A story in Friday’s Gazette contained two errors. Jon Nelson Jr., owner of the Bunch of Grapes Bookstore in Vineyard Haven, has not yet sold his West Tisbury home. And Mr. Nelson’s father Jon Nelson is still living. The Gazette regrets the errors.
The Martha’s Vineyard Commission will hold three forums this summer to present and discuss preliminary Island Plan findings from two new work groups and the steering committee, and to give members of the community the opportunity to provide their input. Each forum is open to the public, is free, and will take place at 7:30 p.m.
This summer’s forums are:
• Transportation, Monday, July 14, at the Katharine Cornell Theatre in Vineyard Haven,
• Built Environment, Monday, August 4, at the Union Chapel in Oak Bluffs,
The cleanup of some 260 oyster bags that have been floating in Menemsha Pond for several months was completed this week by the natural resources department of the Wampanoag Tribe of Gay Head (Aquinnah).
Work crews logged 57 hours over six days to complete the cleanup project on both the Aquinnah and Chilmark sides of the pond, tribal administrator Tobias Vanderhoop said yesterday.
“The bags have been assembled in the aquaculture zone and are being inventoried and then returned to the lines,” Mr. Vanderhoop said.
The Dukes County Commission is looking to fill the seat left vacant by Paul Strauss who retired from many of his public service positions last month. Letters of interest from those willing and qualified to complete the remainder of Mr. Strauss’s term are due by July 18 at 4 p.m. Applicants should be a resident of any Island town except West Tisbury or a resident of Gosnold and at least 18 years of age. County manager Russell Smith said the county is looking for someone with a desire to serve the public and a familiarity with the community. The job offers no pay.
The three-day 85th annual Edgartown Yacht Club regatta got off to a sailor’s start yesterday with a fresh breeze. Under clear blue skies and perfect sailing conditions, more than 150 sailboats competed for prizes in the Edgartown outer harbor.
Today and tomorrow is a continuation of the one-design sailing off the Edgartown lighthouse with boats from as small as the Optimist, an 8-foot sailing dinghy, to as large as the 30-foot Shields sailboat.

Lisa BenDavid and Dennis BenDavid of Oak Bluffs announce the birth of a son, Brayden Patrick BenDavid, on July 8 at the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital. Brayden weighed 7 pounds, 13 ounces at birth.

Bingo is in trouble on Monday nights at the American Legion Post 257 in Vineyard Haven.
The social function that always drew a good crowd and a crew of volunteers and raised money for the veterans group is fading. There are also bingo problems at the American Legion Post 186 in Edgartown.
Mike and Kerry Saunier are not new to Heather Gardens. This will be Mike’s sixth season as the operating manager of the property, so when he and his wife Kerry purchased the West Tisbury property on June 19, they knew they were on familiar turf.
The town of Oak Bluffs and the U.S. Coast Guard have entered into an agreement that will allow the Oak Bluffs police to enforce Coast Guard laws in waters off the town when necessary.
On Monday morning, Capt. Raymond J. Perry, the captain of the port for Southeastern New England, joined Oak Bluffs police chief Erik G. Blake to sign the agreement at the police station.
