From the Nov. 24, 1989 edition of the Vineyard Gazette: The holiday season opened on the Vineyard with a rare and heavy snowfall early Thanksgiving morning.
Now is the season for leaf-crunch ing. Of course, the red and gold leaves on the trees remind us that it is still fall. But on the ground there are crisp brown ones that I have been enjoying, too.

From Nov. 24 to March 31, rides on the Vineyard Transit Authority will be free. Insteading of paying $1.25 per town for a ride, passengers can hop on the Island’s bus system without paying any fares as part of the “try transit” program sponsored by the state legislature.
