Winter track has debuted this year as a brand new sport at the regional high school. The head coach for the winter track team is longtime track and cross-country coach Joe Schroeder, and the squad is fielding about 25 student-athletes for its first go-around.

At a recent event at the Katharine Cornell Theatre I was crowned Martha’s Vineyard poet laureate, succeeding Lee McCormack. I was given a two-year term, a plastic laurel wreath and a toga.

Living on the Vineyard provides a front-row seat to a panorama of the constantly changing environs. There are parts of the country where these differences are a bit less apparent.
