A story published in last Friday’s Gazette about a historic house on North Water street in Edgartown reported incorrectly on the attendance of homeowner Martha Gendell at historic district commission meetings. Mrs. Gendell did not attend the meetings, but was represented by her attorney. The Gazette regrets the error.

House Available

The Martha’s Vineyard Land Bank is accepting bids for the removal of a house on Jeffers Lane on Chappaquiddick. A bid package is available at the land bank office at 167 Main street, Edgartown, or by calling 508-627-7141. Bids must be received in the land bank by 3 p.m. Monday, Dec. 17.

Oak Bluffs police last Friday broke up a party on Grovedale Road attended by more than a dozen underage guests and charged the host with illegally providing alcohol to minors.

Matthew P. Lyons, 24, was charged with selling or delivering liquor to a person under the age of 21. He was arraigned in Edgartown District Court on Monday and released on $100 bail.

As the two-week shotgun season for deer came to a close, officials reported that it has been a quiet year, with the number of deer taken down by almost half from last year.

A total of 118 deer were checked in at the Manuel F. Correllus State Forest through the first week, compared to 208 last year. At the Wampanoag tribe station in Aquinnah, 104 deer were checked in through the first week, compared to 181 through the same period last year.

It wasn’t exactly a summit conference, but selectmen from Chilmark and Aquinnah held a joint session on Tuesday to discuss the possibility of dredging Menemsha Pond. The two boards last met in Aquinnah roughly a year ago to discuss cell phone towers.

This time they met in Chilmark and the topic at hand was mutual concerns about the health of the pond that spans both towns.

The Martha’s Vineyard Land Bank has joined forces with the Island Affordable Housing Trust to buy 22.5 acres off State Road in West Tisbury for the combined purpose of conservation and affordable housing.

The property, which is near the intersection of Old County Road on the south side of State Road, was formerly owned by the late Eleanor Bennett. The seller is Molly Belle Bennett, Mrs. Bennett’s daughter and the executor of her estate.

They are symptoms most of us have experienced. Fatigue? We chalk it up to skimping on sleep. We forget where we put our car keys and call it a sign of age. Anxiety — one too many things on the to-do list. Hardly ever do we stop and think these symptoms all have one cause. Rarely do we think they are signs of sickness.

Old South Road’s east fork won’t be regraded this winter because Aquinnah has learned that the town doesn’t own its oldest street.

Brush clearing prior to regrading the unpaved ancient way was halted after selectmen learned that the town never has formally accepted the road, selectman and board chairman Camille Rose told several somewhat perplexed residents at the board’s Nov. 26 meeting.

Residents had come to the meeting to ask why the work had ceased, leaving clumps of cut brush on the rutted and potholed road.
