Boat Line Board Names Fast Ferry After Sachem

The Steamship Authority's new fast ferry will carry the name
Iyanough, the Cummaquid sachem for whom Hyannis is named.
The boat line board of governors Tuesday decided to bestow the name
on the vessel, scheduled to go into service on the Hyannis-Nantucket
route about a year from now.
The $9.5 million ferry will replace the Flying Cloud, the first fast
ferry built by the SSA for the route. The four-engine vessel has a
passenger capacity of 350.
Using charts, graphs and an encyclopedic knowledge of sharks, a leading state marine biologist told the Oak Bluffs selectmen this week that the embattled Boston Big Game Fishing Club's Monster Shark tournament is less about drinking beer and killing sharks, and more about providing a rare opportunity to collect vital information for research.

demolition and expansion of the Lookout Tavern on Sea View avenue
extension to the Martha's Vineyard Commission as a potential
development of regional impact (DRI).

Hospital Wins Critical Approval from State in Push to Expand at Oak
Bluffs Campus

Martha's Vineyard Hospital has won a crucial approval from the
state for a planned $42 million expansion and renovation at its Linton
Lane campus in Oak Bluffs.
The state Public Health Council unanimously voted last month to
approve a determination of need application submitted in July 2004 by
the hospital. Construction is slated to begin later this year.
