We were lucky that we escaped the storm that was predicting another six to twelve inches of snow on top of what we already had. We have more than enough snow and snow piles to last us a while. What we need is some thawing weather as it is going to take some time to get rid of the huge snow piles were have.
Happy Birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Jordan Donaroma and Jackson Dowd, who celebrated their day Feb. 1; Tieman Crowell, Feb. 3; Issac Lucier, Feb. 4; and to Olive Rosbeck, who celebrated her day Feb. 5.
Like I do every day, I took my dog Merida for a walk around the Boys & Girls Club. I was out earlier this one day as the weather was quite pleasant and I wanted to take advantage before the temperatures dropped. I could hear kids playing and laughing but I could not see them because of the snow piles. When I turned the corner there were teachers Liz Ward, and Chip Story and their class playing on one of the piles of snow. They had investigated the pile and turned it into a giant slide and a snow fort. The kids were squealing with delight as they slid down the slide and the ones not sliding were busy making blocks for the fort. Liz said the kids were getting itchy in the classroom and it was so beautiful out that they decided to let the kids play for a bit. Yes, some of them were wet from the snow, but Liz said between her and Mr. Story they had it covered as they always have extra socks and other clothes, just in case.
Harbor Homes winter shelters are in full swing, and they will continue to work with the local churches to provide warming centers when needed this winter. You can support their efforts with a donation, which you can do on the website: harborhomesmv.com/donate.
Now that outside has very limited activities, I see people on social media asking about the best shows to binge watch or what is the best movie to be watching. But, starting this weekend, we have the opening of the Winter Olympics and of course the Super Bowl. The Olympics will fill the next couple of weeks and hopefully by the time they are through we will be able to see ground. Go Pats!
Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
