There is so much to say about the Hulberts, both Chris and Chicklet. They came into my life seven years ago but many of you knew them longer. They both followed Grateful Dead concerts and tribute shows across this country. Chris came upon Chicklet in California over 16 years ago. He estimates they have crossed the country together about 16 times.

Chicklet, a trained therapy pup, made many visits here to Windemere when it was at our hospital, to the Martha’s Vineyard Center for Living, and to many of our Councils on Aging. They spent winters in Key West.

Chicklet was friends with everyone but she quickly learned who the dispenser of treats was in each household. She zeroed in on that person. Chicklet Hulbert passed on-Island on Sept. 6. We are all heartbroken. But one thing I know for certain is Chris and Chicklet gave each other the best of lives.

Our Harbor Homes winter shelter opened this past weekend.

Jack Ryan, postmaster and acclaimed artist, has an exhibit of his work up at Mocha Mott’s. Check it out.

Ted Hewitt’s 10-foot high painting of the Book Tree is back on the wall of our renovated library.

Barbara Pope Peckham has a new book out on Amazon. It’s called A View from the Attic. She made a whirlwind trip here to read from it at the Chilmark library. It was very well received.

Alas, the Island Cup stays on Nantucket this year. But the girls soccer team defended their Golden Anchor win.

Jacoby Light, our golfing senior, earned a 17th place finish at the state golf finals. Then he was voted the Cape and Islands League MVP. Congratulations.

The Oak Bluffs police department hosted a wonderful Trunk or Treat last weekend.

What to say about Fella Cecilio’s passing this past weekend. Chef, restaurateur, barbecue sauce maker, friend to all. There is a big hole in our lives now.

The birthday bandwagon pulled along Marie Laursen on Nov. 1, and on Nov. 3 Marie Duncan Napolitano took the cake. Many happy returns.
