This past week of sun and warmer temperatures was a relief after the previous stretch of gray days that seemed to endlessly alternate rain and snow — winter’s reprise. People were inspired to get outdoors again, to rake up the dead leaves and branches in preparation for spring — which means more work ahead! The snowdrops, in full bloom, looked happy to be uncovered.

Chilmark is enjoying spring! There are crocuses in full bloom at Abel’s Hill Cemetery and lots of green in swamps and on sunny hillsides. I am sure we all enjoyed the milder temperatures and got some outside work done.
The Menemsha Café reopened, serving lunches, this week. They will be open from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for the time being. We are happy to have a place to eat out in Chilmark again!

The weather has been a welcome relief for the past week with most days in the 50s and spring just around the corner. Tomorrow night is time to turn your clocks ahead one hour as we enter daylight saving time.
Condolences to the family and friends of Thomas P. Benton, whose family resided on the town line of Aquinnah and Chilmark. I have fond memories from more than half a century ago while spending time on the beach below their home overlooking the Herring Creek.
