Chilmark’s heart is heavy as we end this week sharing grief and heartache with some members of our Island community. We send condolences to all those in sorrow and we hope for healing for all.
Our early spring forges ahead. The daffodil displays all over town are in bloom and all seem bigger and better than other years. The grass along the sides of the roads is already green and the oak trees are turning a reddish color as the buds swell.

Well, spring has arrived and it sure felt like it last Monday and Tuesday. The flowers and many birds are back and the grass is looking greener. We all thought Jack Frost had taken an early vacation, but he was back with a vengeance Tuesday morning and the weather suddenly became more seasonable.
Tisbury School principal John Custer has announced the honor roll for the second quarter of the 2011-2012 academic year.
Eighth grade high honors go to Benjamin Davey, Edwin Gould-Hatt, Olivia Jacobs, Nelly Katzman, Casey McAndrews and Kaela Vecchia-Zeitz.
Eighth grade honors go to Noell Coburn, Celena Guimaraes, Olivia Jacobs, Elijah Larue, Chace Lewis, Dayanna Middleton, Ellie O’Callaghan, Megan Piche, Michaela Piche and Maxwell Santos.
Seventh grade high honors go to Benjamin Nadelstein.
HARVARD VISIT: The Brazilian history and culture class and the advanced placement European history class visited Harvard where they were the guests of the Brazilian studies department. The students enjoyed a tour of the campus, a wonderful lunch and attended a graduate seminar on Thursday, March 22.
Announcing Rose
Robyn and Simon Athearn are pleased to announce the birth of their daughter, Rose Hope Athearn. Rose was born on March 24, 2012 at 12:17 a.m.weighing 8 pounds, 3.5 ounces.
Her attentive grandparents are Rose and I.J. Hosey of Dallas, Pa. and Jim and Debbie Athearn of Edgartown.
Rose will take her place on the family farm off New Lane in West Tisbury in the house in which her great-great-grandmother was born.
Harlow Arrives
Elizabeth Blaydes and James Hannah Jr. of Edgartown announce the birth of a daughter, Harlow Brewer Hannah, born on March 19 at the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital. Harlow weighed 6 pounds, 8 ounces at birth.
