I hope you all enjoyed the small taste of summer that we had. Of course, we all knew it was a tease and now we don’t want to have to go back to the cold and damp. But this too shall pass!

Happy Birthday to all who celebrated their days this past week. Big balloons go out to Colleen Carroll, who celebrated her day March 24; Amelia Durawa and Maria Menezes, March 26; Sara Creato and Jared Davenport, March 29, and to Kyle Hatt and Jaclynn Trapp, who celebrate their day today, March 30.

Special birthday wishes go out to Pam Dolby’s husband, Michael, who celebrates his special day March 31.

Ninety-four balloons go to Rosalie Bassett, who celebrated her day March 25. Rosalie was showered with many gifts, but was happiest with her family calling and visiting her. She had calls from the Dominican Republic and as far away as Hawaii from her granddaughter Melanie. Glad you had a great day, Mrs. Bassett, and here is to many more.

Gail Elliot celebrated her day March 28. She started out the day exercising with her friends and then planting some pansies for her daughter. I hope she had a great day, and wish her many more special days.

Spring is here and the town is getting ready for the annual meeting. Town meeting will be April 10 at the Whaling Church and town reports will be out any day now, so keep your eye open for the sign in front of the town hall. Also, the warrants have been mailed and should be in your P.O. boxes soon.

This is a reminder to all of the Island friends of James J. Kresel: His memorial service will be held in East Walpole at the Union Congregational Church, 55 Rhoades Avenue, at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 21.

This Sunday is Palm Sunday. Many of you will be going to church and then, following tradition, to the florist for their open house. I remember waiting patiently for my parents to be done with the dishes so we could get going to see what the florist had to offer. I came home with many marigolds, but never remember how many survived for me. I think the best part is running into people that you have not seen since last year at the same flower shop.

We were out in the yard last Sunday and I heard the noise. The ping was happening at the ball field. Fathers and sons and daughters were out playing a friendly game of baseball. It was so great to hear the sounds of summer at the park.

I hear town is waking up. The Wharf reopened, following a great spring cleaning. The new restaurant in what was the wood shop is coming along. I hear the Atlantic is opening sometime this week. It won’t be long and we will see the “thanks for a great season” signs coming down, replaced with open signs instead.

Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
