Clarification

John Clese, executive director of the Martha’s Vineyard YMCA, wishes to clarify his position as reported last week in a Gazette news article concerning a proposed sewer line tie-in for Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School. Mr. Clese says the YMCA, through discussions with the Martha’s Vineyard Commission, agrees that tying the high school to the Oak Bluffs wastewater treatment plant is the best solution to meet environmental regulations governing the high school area and the Lagoon Pond watershed.

An obituary and news article in last Friday’s Gazette about Herbert Putnam 3rd incorrectly reported a piece of written verse given to him by a friend during Mr. Putnam’s battle with cancer. The piece was not the Prayer of St. Francis as printed, but rather a Sanskrit poem of hope. The Gazette regrets the error.

A story in last week’s Gazette about a traffic fatality inaccurately described the collision impact between a car driven by Brandy Marie Gibson and a van driven by Francellyo C. Dias. The vehicle driven by Ms. Gibson, who died in the crash, struck the van driven by Mr. Francellyo. Also, due to incorrect information contained in the police press release, the story reported inaccurately on the direction Ms. Gisbon was traveling at the time of the accident. She was traveling east toward Edgartown. The Gazette regrets the errors.

In a story in last week’s edition on David Belcher, the first name of Foster Silva, the original superintendent at Cape Pogue and Wasque for The Trustees of Reservations, was misspelled. Also, Route 28 in Falmouth was misidentified.
