Work continues on the monumental project we’ve been witnessing here on Chappy. This week they’ve been installing cable in the underground conduits, and transformers wherever the line connects to houses. The poles will eventually need to be taken down. The house-sized machine on Dock street that mixed the clay with water for drilling was taken away on a trailer up the wrong way of Main street during the night on Tuesday.

Slippery Conditions

My life is a series of fixing things and moving stuff. I feel as if I could do a George Carlin stand-up routine.

Edgartown Column

There will be no Edgartown column for the next few weeks while Gazette columnist Kathie Case recovers from surgery. Kathie’s friends at the Gazette wish her a speedy recovery. Please e-mail news@mvgazette.com if you have an item of interest for the newspaper during this brief hiatus. And as Kathie would write, keep the home candles burning.

Chilmark starts the new year in a melancholy way having to say goodbye to women who each leave many memories among the Chilmark population. We will all miss each of them as each made their unique contributions to Chilmark.
