At Museum's Big Night, Fundraising Milestone Announced

A $24 million project to build a new Martha’s Vineyard Museum in Vineyard Haven is on track to raise some $15 million in cash and pledges by the end of the year. This was the good news at the museum’s annual Evening of Discovery, the principal annual fundraiser held on Saturday night.

Museum Move Subject of Community Forums

Change is planned for the Martha’s Vineyard Museum, and the museum wants community feedback. That was the thinking behind a series of community forums recently held in Chilmark, Vineyard Haven, West Tisbury, Edgartown and Oak Bluffs.

Speaking to a crowd of two dozen people attending the Tuesday night meeting at the Federated Church in Edgartown, museum executive director David Nathans thanked everyone for coming. “It’s important to all of us that we get feedback from you. We really, really want feedback,” he said.

Museum Highlights the Art in Martha

Martha’s Vineyard Museum points out that you can’t spell Martha’s Vineyard without ART as they sponsor the annual fall art extravaganza featuring Vineyard artists such as Tony Holand, Meg Mercier, Kara Taylor, David Wallis, Wendy Weldon, Allen Whiting and more. The art party takes place at a private Edgartown home and offers an opportunity to view some Vineyard treasures and gain insight from the artists as they discuss their work.

Dan Waters Named New Development Director of Museum

The Martha’s Vineyard Museum announces the appointment of Daniel Waters as its new development director effective immediately.

Mr. Waters is a long-time resident of West Tisbury and earned his bachelor’s degree in English at Wesleyan University. He was instrumental in the formation of the Martha’s Vineyard Cultural Council, garnering a 2005 Leadership Circle Award from the Massachusetts Cultural Council. He became a trustee for the West Tisbury Public Library, cowriting a $2.98 million grant for construction of the new library.

Museum Celebrates 90 Years with Evening of Discovery

The Martha’s Vineyard Museum celebrated its 90th birthday on Saturday by holding its annual Evening of Discovery gala on the grounds of its future site, the former Marine Hospital in Vineyard Haven. Three-hundred forty-two guests paid $200 to attend the event — the largest number of attendees since the museum’s summer dinners began 15 years ago.
