Tree Talk and Trek

If trees could talk what story would they tell? Tom Clark, curator at Polly Hill Arboretum, knows better than most.

On Tuesday, June 11, he will lead a walking tour and share stories about the trees of the arboretum. Meet at 10 a.m. at the arboretum, 809 State Road in West Tisbury, for an hour-long trek. Cost is $5 or free for Polly Hill members.

Cupid and Psyche

Sometimes puppets are just a fun diversion and a creative way to tell a story. Next Saturday, June 15, puppets will also help disabled children in Zambia.

Celebrate World Oceans Day at Film Center

On Saturday, June 8, the Martha’s Vineyard Film Society (MVFS) and Heaven in Ocean Productions will host a pair of film screenings at The Film Center in Vineyard Haven in honor of World Oceans Day. The event will show the films Planet Ocean, a documentary addressing damage to the marine ecosystem, and Hot Tuna, which explores the Atlantic Ocean’s endangered bluefin tuna.

The screenings are part of a series called Across Sound Connections, which pairs an informative ocean film with a speaker to educate audiences about the ocean and the issues marine ecosystems face.

Ms. Graham is the author of 12 poetry collections including the Pulitzer Prize-winning The Dream of the Unified Field. Ms. Howe has written more than 20 books of poetry.

Throughout the day residents can enjoy face painting, a bit of magic with Ollie the Clown, and free ice cream and iced coffee while learning about what to do in the case of a natural disaster on the Island.

Strength in Weakness

With some luck, anglers might come across a school of weakfish running, or more likely swimming.

Elusive Brown Creeper

The bird is a very small one, measuring around five inches. In flight one cannot help but notice its long seven-inch wingspan. Well camouflaged for its choice of habitat, this bird creeps around tree trunks, has a brown back speckled with white, a tail and rump the color of an old-fashioned brick and a white belly.

Please Adopt Us

Bye, bye bunnies! All the rabbits at the Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard are hopping down the bunny trail to new homes this week. Think how much good luck they will bring to their new families with all those rabbit feet in the house.
The adorable orange kitties have been adopted by the same person. It is always gratifying to see two little ones who have been born and raised together remain united. More kittens will soon be available. That beautiful mother cat who delivered her litter of five under a house in Edgartown is weaning her lively brood.
