Neighborhood Convention

Neighborhood Convention will meet on Tuesday, June 3, at 10:45 a.m. at The Yard in Chilmark for a special program, Behind the Scenes at The Yard: Choreographers Share Their Vision.

The program will be followed by the worship service and lunch at the Chilmark Community Church at Menemsha Crossroads. The Rev. Susan Heafield will conduct the service. Dessert and beverages will be provided. Participants are asked to bring a bag lunch. More information is available by calling Mary-Jean Miner at 508-696-8589.

Jalicia is also welcomed by big brothers Elizah Reed of Edgartown and Craig Rozario of New Bedford.

We could not have asked for a better Memorial Day weekend. The weather was spectacular and the town was gorgeous. Everything was so green: the trees had burst their leaves, the lawns were mowed to perfection, and all the flower boxes, planters and beds were filled with beautiful flowers.

Although deputy chief Larry Thomas officially retired from the department in August 2007 after 47 years with the Edgartown Fire Department, he was honored last month.

After President Andrew Kelly spoke about his own memories growing up in the fire station for much of Chief Thomas’s career, he presented Chief Thomas with a gold clock.

The Cape Cod Foundation recently awarded the Cape Cod and Islands Chapter of the American Red Cross an $8,000 grant to support Cape and Islands disaster planning.

The funding will support the prepositioning of shelter equipment, supplies, food, water and communication systems to meet the emergency standards for an additional 3,600 potential evacuees in the event of a major disaster or emergency on the Cape and Islands.
