Arts MV held its annual meeting on Monday which featured speaker Ann Markusen, an expert in assessing how arts can bring more dollars to a community, including redesigning public places to promote commerce.

Arts Martha's Vineyard invites the business community, creative economy and all those interested to its annual meeting on Monday, March 31, at 4 p.m. at the Martha’s Vineyard Film Center in Vineyard Haven. Ann Markusen, director of the Arts Economy Initiative at the University of Minnesota, will talk about how to better leverage the Island’s existing creative assets to support its year-round economy.

If you were looking to take the pulse of the Island arts community this week, the Harbor View Hotel was the place to be.

A large group of Island arts leaders and planners convened there Tuesday to listen to a presentation by Lyz Crane, director of partnerships and special projects at ArtPlace America.

The Martha’s Vineyard Center for Living will hold its first cultural luncheon of the year on Saturday, Jan. 26, from noon to 2 p.m. at The Grill on Main in Edgartown. The theme for the series ties in with Arts Martha’s Vineyard which works to promote and support the arts on the Island. The featured speaker is Ann Smith, executive director of the Featherstone Center for the Arts.

Plein Air is in the air. For the month of October the Martha’s Vineyard Museum and Arts Martha’s Vineyard are teaming up to celebrate creativity done outdoors. During the month various museum properties will be open for Island artists for a series of plein air sessions.
