There will be no lack of support for the Vineyard boys’ basketball team as they take on defending state champion Danvers in tomorrow’s Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletics Association state semifinals. In fact, the whole school has been given a half day off to watch the home team play at the TD Garden in Boston.

For the second year in a row, the boys’ basketball team is headed to the finals of the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletics Association sectional tournament after defeating Medway 70-60 Monday evening in Taunton. With the win, the boys improved their season record to 17-5 and advance to the Division 3 South Section finals, which will be played this Saturday at UMass-Boston.

The boys’ basketball team rebounded from a tough one-point loss on Friday in their second game of the weekend as they defeated visiting Lexington 53-46 on Sunday afternoon. Senior Liam Weston had a standout game for the Vineyarders, shooting 78 per cent from the field en route to 16 points.

The tenth annual Vineyard Streetball Classic three-on-three basketball tournament takes center court at Niantic Park in Oak Bluffs on Tuesday, July 3, beginning at 10 a.m.

BOSTON — The Vineyard boys’ basketball team’s successful season came to a close Saturday, as the team came back from an early 16-point deficit but fell just short, losing 70-65 to undefeated Wareham in the division 3 south section championship game at UMass Boston.
The loss also ended a dream year for all four of the high school’s winter teams. The boys’ and girls’ basketball and hockey teams all made their post-season tournaments. Boys’ basketball was the last one left playing until Saturday.
