Plans to expedite repairs for the Island Theatre in Oak Bluffs appear to be in jeopardy after owners failed to provide a complete update Wednesday as stipulated in a court order.

Under court order and on the verge of the busy summer season, the owners of the Island Theatre on Circuit avenue have agreed to take action to repair the run-down building.

The future of the long-neglected Island Theatre has become even more uncertain after voters at the annual town meeting on Tuesday decided not to pay for emergency bracing to prevent the historic building on Circuit avenue from falling down.

A plan of action for the crumbling Island Theatre will come before Oak Bluffs voters at town meeting in April, with a $200,000 proposal on the table for temporary repairs to make the structure safe.

Selectmen will commission a report on how much it would cost to bring the crumbling, 101-year-old Island Theatre into a safe state.

A board of survey convened to assess the Island Theatre has determined that the building is dangerous, granting the Oak Bluffs building inspector license to order its demolition.
