The regional high school and all-Island school committees voted last week to certify amended budgets for the coming fiscal year.

Voters up-Island have been taking a hard look at what it costs to educate their schoolchildren. According to the most recent data available, the up-Island school district ranked sixth in per-pupil spending among other districts in the state.

Board members reached agreement on a revised $10.3 million budget by trimming hours and shifting positions for several employees, and eliminating an education support professional in West Tisbury. The spending plan draws heavily from reserve funds.
