Jennifer Tseng began her reading at Wednesday’s night’s Speakeasy benefit for the West Tisbury Library held at State Road restaurant with an apology for being morbid. Her poem, When You Are Gone, was in honor of Andrew Jephcote, a “beloved regular and friend” who leaves little found-object sculptures around the library.

This week features the first in a series of three Speakeasy nights to be held at State Road Restaurant in West Tisbury, all of which are to benefit the West Tisbury Library.

Each evening will feature a prominent writer discussing his or her work and taking questions. There will also be hors d’oeuvres and light refreshments.

On Wednesday, Oct. 26, the first speaker will be Pulitzer-prize winning author, Geraldine Brooks. Her latest book, Caleb’s Crossing, is set in 17th century Martha’s Vineyard.

It’s true and thanks to the Island Grown Schools’ Chilmark Community Lunch initiative, students could see beet chips replacing generic potato chips more often in the months ahead.

State Road Restaurant will hold a benefit dinner to support Island Grown Schools on Sunday evening, Oct. 24. The food will be be sourced from Island farms and beer and wine are included,

A group of neighbors are unhappy about noise, added traffic and overflow parking problems at the popular State Road restaurant in North Tisbury.

In a letter sent to the West Tisbury selectmen, zoning board of appeals and town building inspector last week, six State Road abutters outlined a long list of complaints about the restaurant, which opened a year and a half ago.

The letter, which was read into the record of the weekly selectmen’s meeting on Wednesday afternoon, also accuses the restaurant of unauthorized parking use on neighboring property.

It’s dinner out again for the President and Mrs. Obama, who are at State Road restaurant in West Tisbury on Tuesday night with Vernon and Ann Jordan and longtime friends Eric and Cheryl Whitaker.
