If you think pizza isn’t particularly French, consider this: France is the second-biggest consumer of pizza in the world. (The U.S. comes first; Italy only a distant third.) Furthermore, a French chef currently holds the title for the world’s best pizza recipe, with a topping featuring fois gras.

Library Sundays
The Vineyard Haven Public Library will be open on Sundays beginning Oct. 31. To celebrate, the library will hold a Halloween open house on Oct. 31 from noon to 4 p.m.
There will be cider, cookies and other Halloween treats as well as a special drop-in crafts program for children age five and up. Come in costume, and you may enter a drawing for a variety of prizes for all ages.
College Bound
Harry J. Cipolla, son of Mr. James Cipolla of Oak Bluffs, began his first year at Saint Michael’s College in September. Mr. Cipolla graduated from Cohasset Junior Senior High School before coming to Saint Michael’s, which is located in Burlington, Vt.
Seed Savers
All are welcome to join the Nature Conservancy staff in collecting, cleaning and sorting seeds from their native plant nursery. Seeds are currently ripening on plants in the nursery and are in need of harvesting. This is an opportunity to learn about native plants and help preserve the unique natural character of Martha’s Vineyard.
