It certainly seems as though there should be something more important to write about than the weather, but spring passed with more gray, misty days than anyone would care to count and thus far this summer (all five days of it) the weather continues to be a primary topic of conversation. Many folks are beginning to wonder if this will be one of those long gray summers that descend on the Island every once in a while.

Can you believe that the Fourth of July is next weekend and we have only seen about three days of sun? Everyone is hoping that things will clear and the festivities can go off without a care.

Our weather records tell us that this has been the coldest and rainiest June in 75 years and we still have four days to go! People continue to arrive for their vacation and hope the weather turns into summer. Starting on Wednesday the crunch should be upon us as some folks will get a head start on the holiday weekend as Independence Day is next Saturday.

School is dismissed at noon today for the summer and the VTA summer bus schedule begins tomorrow morning.

This gloomy June is almost over. Chilmark has been in and out of sun and mostly under damp fog and rain all month. Gardens must be thriving and the roadsides are so lush and overgrown that they seem to be trying to encompass the passersby . . . let’s hope for more summer-like weather for July.

Trying to find a summer rental on the Vineyard is still a daunting task.
