The federal Bureau of Ocean Energy Management has cut just over 130 square miles from a wide swath of ocean south of the Vineyard potentially open to wind farm developers.
The Martha’s Vineyard Savings Bank announced Wednesday that president and chief executive officer Christopher Wells has resigned.
Bank trustees announced the resignation in a brief press release, saying only that Mr. Wells had resigned effective immediately for personal reasons.
“We thank Chris for his service to the bank and wish him well in his future endeavors,” said board chairman Philip J. Norton Jr.
Thomas J. Sharkey, chief financial officer at the bank, has been appointed interim president and chief executive officer.
Freetown voters overwhelming voiced opposition to the Wampanoag Tribe of Gay Head (Aquinnah) building a casino in their town at a special town election Tuesday night.
The vote was 954 against and 308 in favor of the tribe building a Class III casino. A total of 1,262 voters turned out to the polls, about 22 per cent voter turnout,Freetown assistant town clerk Diane Souza said. She said the annual town election in April saw 15 per cent voter turnout.
A Boston man was arraigned in Edgartown district court Tuesday morning on several rape charges after allegedly assaulting an Oak Bluffs woman in Chilmark.
Bryant K. Brown, 33, of Boston was charged with eight counts, including assault to murder, assault to rape, three counts of aggravated rape, kidnapping and indecent assault and battery on someone older than 60 or disabled.
The victim was a 28-year-old woman who is disabled, assistant district attorney Laura Marshard said.
The Dukes County commissioners will consider five candidates, ranging in background from attorneys to management positions, for the position of county manager. Four candidates are from the Vineyard, one is from the mainland.
