The weather was more than seasonably warm last weekend, allowing for lots of yard work.

Woke up to a storm this Wednesday morning with wind surging in nor’easterly gusts, rain pounding the roof, and thunder booming like one of those Civil War reenactments taking place right over in Niantic Park. As I look out my front window, a surge of water is rolling southward along the street, enough to hold at least one ark with pairs of giraffes, hippos and zebras at the prow.

From Gazette editions of April, 1986:

The Flying Horses, the famous and historic Oak Bluffs carousel which has delighted generations of children and adults on the Island, is for sale and an Island preservation group is working to save it for the Vineyard. The Martha’s Vineyard Historical Preservation Society is negotiating an option to buy the carousel from owner James Ryan of Osterville. The Flying Horses is the oldest working carousel in the nation and is a National Historic Register landmark.

Please Adopt Us

Cages at the Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard are fast becoming empty, which is good news but soon kittens will be arriving so our volunteers will be busy again.

Please come in and consider adopting one of our long-term cats. And the sweet little bunny C.J. was adopted just in time for Easter, but Grace, the guinea pig, is still with us.

Sorry I missed you last week; I was under the weather. And what weather we have been having! As I splashed through Five Corners last Tuesday I was reminded of back in the day when Five Corners regularly flooded and the fire department had to pump it out. It was getting close, I tell you!

I hope everyone enjoyed themselves last weekend. I know a lot of gardening got done, and in my yard the mulch was put down. It was so beautiful and warm. Then on Wednesday we thought we would surely need a boat to get around. But as we all know, April showers bring May flowers. However, with the rain on Wednesday it may have washed all the seeds away.
