Sorry I missed you last week; I was under the weather. And what weather we have been having! As I splashed through Five Corners last Tuesday I was reminded of back in the day when Five Corners regularly flooded and the fire department had to pump it out. It was getting close, I tell you!

The Thrift Shop has put out a call for artists of all ages; the deadline is May 15. In honor of the 50th anniversary of Martha’s Vineyard Community Services you are invited to submit artwork for the postcard project. The theme needs to be a visual expression of what the MVCS means to the artist and the Island. In words or illustration the initials MVCS and the number 50 must be in the artwork. Send your idea to vhthriftshop@gmail.com by May 15. The prize is a framed postcard of your work and a $100 gift certificate to the Thrift Shop.

Our deepest sympathy goes out to the family and friends of two of our kindest, most talented Islanders who died two weeks ago. Jo-Ann Ewing was so very much loved by all. Michael Ovios was a great talent and wonderful man. I shall never forget that he introduced me to klezmer music. Condolences to all.
