Views at Issue in Edgartown Waterfront Home Renovations

The Edgartown historic district commission continued a public hearing Tuesday afternoon on a plan for renovation work on side-by-side properties on South Water street. The commission will revisit the issue again at their next meeting on June 1.

Repairs Planned, Skate Park Stays Open

Oak Bluffs will allow the skate park on the Edgartown-Vineyard Haven Road to remain open, despite a recent call from the town insurance carrier to shut it down because of safety concerns.

Town administrator Michael Dutton this week said highway superintendent Richard Combra, town police and superintendent of schools Dr. James H. Weiss met recently with Elaine Barse, president of the Martha’s Vineyard Skate Park Association, to discuss the issues at the park.

Temporary Parking Plan For Hospital is Approved

The Martha’s Vineyard Commission last Thursday unanimously approved a temporary agreement allowing the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital to use 50 parking spots at the Portuguese American Club on Vineyard avenue for overflow parking, while hospital officials continue to work on a permanent parking solution.

The Tisbury School March to the Sea parade will be celebrated on Friday, May 28. Students will leave the school at 12:30 p.m. and march to Owen Park via Spring street and Main street. The ceremony will take approximately 45 minutes. In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will take place in the Tisbury School gymnasium at 12:30 p.m.

Under sunny skies, Dana Gaines of Edgartown was one of over 1,300 competitors at the 28th Run of the Charles Canoe and Kayak Race, the signature event of the Charles River Watershed Association (CRWA). Mr. Gaines competed in the masters category of the nine-mile race.

United Methodist Church of Martha’s Vineyard will hold its annual Memorial Day weekend sale next Saturday, May 29 from 9 a.m. to noon, in front of the parish house, near Trinity Church and the Tabernacle, in the Camp Ground of Oak Bluffs.

Church members will assist in baking and selling goodies. Proceeds benefit the ministries of the church, designed to provide outreach and Christian growth.

On Monday, May 31 the town of Tisbury hosts the annual Memorial Day picnic at the Tashmoo Water Works off Spring street and State Road in Vineyard Haven. This event is open to all from 12 to 4 p.m. and is accessible by bus.
