Fee Cut to Foster Field Trips; Principal Reports on Progress

The Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School transportation subcommittee voted at their meeting last Monday night to cut off-Island field trip fees in half for student groups in the next school year. Committee members said they hoped the reduced fees would ease the financial burden on small groups that might otherwise have to sacrifice off-Island activities.

Memory Screenings

Memory screenings will be offered on Friday, June 25, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Edgartown Council on Aging at 10 Daggett street in Edgartown. There is no charge.

These free screenings entail a brief cognitive test for people who do not have a prior diagnosis of dementia. The goal is to identify people with potential problems who may need more extensive evaluation.

Featherstone Center for the Arts, in conjunction with the Martha’s Vineyard Writers Residency, presents a summer-long festival of poetry at Featherstone.

All readings will be held on the third Thurday of each month at 7 p.m.

This summer’s lineup includes both local and nationally known poets.

On Thursday, June 17, locals Jennifer Tseng and Clark Myers will be sharing recent and published work.

Polly Brown and Jane Hawkes of Vineyard Village at Home will be guest speakers on Friday, June 18, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the Oak Bluffs Senior Center.

Vineyard Village at Home is a volunteer organization offering support services for older Islanders who need help to remain in their homes.

The Martha’s Vineyard Garden Club will hold its monthly meeting on June 15 at 1 p.m. at the Old Mill on Edgartown Road in West Tisbury.

Seasonal resident and Vineyard artist Nancy Noble Gardiner will present her flower photography. Members are invited to bring samples of their own flower photography to get advice or feedback from Ms. Gardiner.
