Upgrading security at the West Tisbury town hall was a topic of discussion this week when selectmen approved a new safety and security policy for town employees.

The Vineyard Youth Tennis Center needs you to help raise its bubble. Although the days are still warm, the tennis center is switching to off-season mode and they need lots of volunteers to get the roof up.

The 24th annual Martha’s Vineyard CROP Hunger Walk is Sunday, Oct. 19, beginning at 2 p.m. The walk raises money to fight hunger, locally and worldwide.

Adult and Community Education of MV (ACE MV) will be collaborating with the Yoga Barn in West Tisbury once again to offer a nine-weekend intensive and comprehensive 200-hour Yoga Alliance teacher training starting Friday, Oct. 17 and finishing May 17, 2015.

Ten veterans and their families are participating in the sixth annual American Heroes Saltwater Challenge, hosted by Bob and Sarah Nixon. The veterans spend their mornings at sea, afternoons golfing and surfcasting. The challenge is full of gestures both large and small from the Vineyard community.

Enrollment is up this year at Island public schools, especially in Oak Bluffs which now sends the largest number of students to both its elementary school and the regional high school among the six Island towns.
