Island Students Honored in Marine Art Contest

Two Oak Bluffs students were winners in an annual student marine art contest.

Everett Dorr, a second grader at Oak Bluffs School, won fifth place in the elementary school category for his Arctic puffin art. Oak Bluffs fourth grader Oliver Dorr won an honorable mention in the scientific/nature illustration category (all grades) for his depiction of a wolffish.

Assistant Principal Moves to New Role at the High School

The assistant principal at the regional high school is resigning his post, but he’s not going far.

Matthew Malowski will take a job next year as school adjustment guidance counselor in both the alternative program and the therapeutic support program at the high school, Vineyard schools superintendent Dr. James H. Weiss told the regional school committee Monday night.

Steamship Authority Approves Plan for New Woods Hole Terminal

The Steamship Authority has agreed on a design concept for the new Woods Hole terminal.

The board approved the plan at their meeting last week in Nantucket, settling many aspects of a debate over terminal reconstruction that has spanned the last year.

East Chop Town Column: June 27

It was a long, bleak winter, but weather was the least of our problems. We lost Dale Collinson, Helen Meleny, John Potter, Ruth and Mike Davin, Marty Mard, Russell Clark and Mark Hanschka. For those of you who don’t remember Mark, he was the tennis pro at the East Chop Tennis Club in 1953 and the brother of Carol Traenkle.

Enrollment Rising, Edgartown Adds Another Kindergarten Class

In response to an unanticipated surge in enrollment, the Edgartown School will add another kindergarten class this fall.

There are currently 46 students signed up for kindergarten, and more could register before September, said principal John Stevens in his petition for selectmen support at their weekly meeting Monday.
