Four Stars for Charlotte Inn

The Charlotte Inn in Edgartown was named a Forbes Travel four-star recommended hotel in the 2014 Forbes Travel Guide Star Rating list.

The inn takes guests back to the Edwardian era and contains furnishings and art from the 19th century.

Announcing Vincent

Erika Weron and Phill Fuentes of Edgartown announce the birth of a son, Vincent Mark Fuentes, born on Feb. 4 at the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital. Vincent weighed 7 pounds, 12.9 ounces at birth. He is welcomed at home by his brothers, Colby Weron and Dominic Fuentes.

Edgartown Town Column: Feb. 7

Once again I am sitting here listening to the sound of plows and sanders going by the house, clearing the street and parking lot so that the parents and children can go safely to school after a two-hour delay. This has been quite the winter.

Happy birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Meghan Delphous who celebrated her day Feb. 1; Kazara Aldeborgh, Amy Naughton and Aiden Rogers who all celebrated Febr. 6, and to Shilah Trott who celebrates her day today, Feb. 7.

On Chappy: Feb. 7

Years ago contra dances were held monthly on Martha’s Vineyard. We even had one here on Chappy at the Chappy Community Center one summer. Sally and I attended regularly enough that we could easily carry out the steps and figures. Contra dances usually include some square dancing as well as a few waltzes. During the contra and square dances the caller would tell us what figure to do next. A big part of it was teaching the figures to the newcomers and introducing new figures to the old-timers.

Selectmen Pull Plug on Menemsha Channel Dredging Project

Funded by the Army Corps of Engineers, the project was intended to improve navigation in the channel. But Chilmark leaders said it will invite large yachts into the pond, putting shellfish at risk.

Fair Trade

On Sunday, Feb. 9, at the Agricultural Hall there will be a fair trade mission table held after the West Tisbury Congregational Church service, at approximately 11 a.m.

Romancing the Oyster

A fundraising event to benefit the Martha's Vineyard Shellfish Group and the Edgartown Shellfish Growers Association will take place on Feb. 12 at 6 p.m.
