Edgartown Unveils New Emergency Management Center

On Saturday afternoon the Edgartown Police Department held an open house, giving taxpayers a chance to see all the new bells and whistles.

Officers gave tours of the new Emergency Management Center and showed off the new emergency response boat.

Patrolman Jamie Craig, a member of the SWAT team dispatched to Watertown last week, talked about SWAT training procedures.

The Moon and Saturn appear as a pair low in the eastern sky after sunset tonight. The two are in the zodiacal constellation Libra. The moon is one day past full moon and only slightly dimmer than it was last night.
   
This weekend, the moon passes through the zodiacal constellation Scorpius, a constellation we most often associate with summer. If you are up late tonight, around midnight, the constellations you mostly see are our summer constellations.

Selectman Skeptical About Oyster Farm Plan in Lagoon Pond

A plan for a large oyster farm in Lagoon Pond spurred debate in Oak Bluffs this week, with town officials weighing concerns about the location and effects of the proposed farm with the potential benefits of aquaculture. Brothers Dan and Greg Martino applied for an aquaculture license to start a four-acre oyster farm at the southern end of Lagoon Pond.

State Primary, Town Elections on Tuesday

A state primary Tuesday will coincide with two annual town elections on the Vineyard.

Chilmark and Tisbury will hold their town elections on the same day as the primary in a special election to fill the seat formerly held by Sen. John Kerry.

Despite the change in dates to coincide with the senate election primary, town clerks in Chilmark and Tisbury are expecting low voter turnout.

Mr. Kerry stepped down in January to become secretary of state after serving as senator for 28 years.
