Count the ways chocolate lovers can indulge their passions starting Friday night at the Featherstone Center for the Arts. Chocolate martinis, chocolate bread pudding, chocolate mousse and old-fashioned s’mores are all on the menu at the Annual Art of Chocolate Festival.
The festival, celebrating its eighth year, was originated by Jeanne and Malcolm Campbell of Chilmark Chocolates as a fundraiser for Featherstone. The Campbells, as well as chefs from all over the Island, will provide chocolate treats for tasting.
Churning seas over the weekend produced three new derby-leading fish including a 46.15-pound striped bass.
The striper was reeled in from a boat by Richard A. Penney, of Carver, who weighed in Sunday at the Edgartown headquarters of the Martha’s Vineyard Striped Bass and Bluefish Derby. Though the fishing competition continues for two more weeks, Penney’s fish would have won the category in either of the past two years.
Bail of $60,000 cash was set Friday for a Vineyard Haven man charged with assaulting his wife and raping a teenage girl in July.
David Thrift, 30, was arraigned in Dukes Superior Court on ten charges, including rape of a child with force, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and intimidating a witness.
Judge Cornelius Moriarty II set bail and ordered Mr. Thrift to have no contact with the two alleged victims. Not guilty pleas were entered on all charges and a pretrial hearing was scheduled for Nov. 3.
Sengekontacket Pond in Edgartown and Oak Bluffs will not reopen to clamming and quahaugging on Oct. 1, Oak Bluffs shellfish biologists said on Friday. The pond will be open for family scalloping.
