Bail of $60,000 cash was set Friday for a Vineyard Haven man charged with assaulting his wife and raping a teenage girl in July.

David Thrift, 30, was arraigned in Dukes Superior Court on ten charges, including rape of a child with force, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and intimidating a witness.

Judge Cornelius Moriarty II set bail and ordered Mr. Thrift to have no contact with the two alleged victims. Not guilty pleas were entered on all charges and a pretrial hearing was scheduled for Nov. 3.

Mr. Thrift has been jailed since his July arrest in Vineyard Haven on allegations he assaulted his wife, fled his house and later returned to the house and raped a 15-year-old female visitor.
