One week of a reprieve before my family home is torn down. Thanks for the additional time. It is terribly difficult to part with some of the treasures of several generations. But, everyone keeps saying “think positive” and look forward to the new beginnings for one and all. In the meantime, it is a rather bittersweet experience clearing out the only home I have really ever known for the past six decades, after probably living in nearly a hundred different houses. Oh, the memories ...

The weekend started out gray with a threat of rain, but lawn mowers could be heard buzzing most everywhere in town. There was a shower or two but it didn’t amount to very much after all and many outside chores were completed. The rhododendron bushes at the Foote tennis court were in full bloom and absolutely magnificent last weekend. Sunday and Monday gave us cool mornings and picture perfect weather.

Chilmark sends condolences to the family and many friends of Lorna Tilton Flanders who died at her home on Monday. The burial was at Abel’s Hill cemetery on Wednesday. She was part of the Chilmark community most of her life and we will all miss her in many ways. She was the widow of Richard Flanders and mother of Martha and Steve and a proud grandmother.

Strawberry Moon

Sunday night’s full moon appears in the zodiacal constellation Scorpius. It is time for the Strawberry Moon. This is as far south as the Full Moon gets and it always takes place in June. Just as astronomers report that the noontime sun is at the highest on the day of summer solstice, the full moon of June is always the lowest full moon of the year.
