The Riverhead Disc Golf Course off Barnes Road is closed until further notice by order of the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation.

Overall, 140 different players from eight different states took part in a national disc golf tournament on Saturday, with skill levels ranging from touring professionals to “can I use this as a plate?”

While the Vineyarders and Nantucket Whalers battled on the gridiron for the Island Cup Saturday, another Island Cup was on the line just a few miles away at the Nantucket Disc Golf Course.

A record number of players, 54, turned out for the eighth annual New Year's Day Disc Golf Tournament in the Manuel F. Correllus State Forest.

Walking into the Manuel F. Correllus State Forest off of Barnes Road, the sound of clinking chains echoes in the air. It may not mean much to the unsuspecting listener, but it is a sweet sound to the frisbee golfer. It means that their frisbee found the basket.

Last Saturday, Martha’s Vineyard hosted their annual frisbee golf tournament — the Vineyard Social V. This year was marked by a record turnout for the competition — almost sold out. There were eighty-nine players, ranging from professionals to intermediate frisbee golfers.
