Catboat Coffee, which recently opened in the Tisbury Marketplace, is a true family business, utilizing the skills of five family members with specialities ranging from cheese and coffee to Lebanese food.

Two established Beach Road companies seeking to expand their businesses came before the Tisbury planning board this week. Both hearings were continued.

The Tisbury select board voted unanimously Wednesday afternoon to award a common victuallers’ license to Catboat Coffee Co., which will receive it once the shop’s fire inspection passes muster with Chief Greg Leland.

Richard Paradise glides around the nearly constructed building on the corner of Tisbury Marketplace, walking quickly to show off the next feature, spreading his arms wide as he elaborates on what is to come. “So just like in a new theater on the mainland, it’s gonna have stadium seating where every seat is a great seat,” he says while standing on the wooden platform.

The Martha’s Vineyard Commission voted unanimously last week to approve a new two-story building at the Tisbury Marketplace on Beach Road in Vineyard Haven. The vote is a victory for developer Sam Dunn, who originally created the marketplace in 1984 and plans to build the new mixed-use retail and apartment building.

The vote concludes a process that began over a year ago when Mr. Dunn’s proposal was referred to the commission as a development of regional impact last fall.

The plan now goes to the town of Tisbury for review at the local level.
