The future of Tisbury’s historic public elementary school will be in the hands of town voters this weekend when they convene a special town meeting to take up a $55 million overhaul of the crumbling old brick school.
The Tisbury School is set to undergo comprehensive asbestos and lead testing next week, school and town leaders said at a joint meeting Tuesday.
At their joint meeting Monday evening, the Tisbury School committee and selectmen approved funding for three co-sponsored warrant articles for repairs and design work for a renovation/addition to the school.
Inadequate conditions at the town school were on full display during a tour this week attended by a large group of town officials.
The Tisbury school presented school awards at its annual recognition day on Tuesday, June 12.
The Tisbury school has announced its fourth quarter honor roll for the 2017-2018 school year.
Friday was the last day of classes for most Vineyard students, a time to celebrate the arrival of summer.
