The Rev. John Rice, former Canon for Congregations in the Diocese of Massachusetts, will lead services at Trinity Episcopal Church in Oak Bluffs on August 5 and 12.
Trinity Episcopal Church, located across from the Steamship Authority in Oak Bluffs, is the first Episcopal house of worship built on Martha’s Vineyard. It offers a diverse and inspirational schedule of visiting clergy throughout the summer. Services are held at 9 a.m.
Alden Besse to Preach
Trinity Episcopal Church in Oak Bluffs welcomes the Reverend Alden Besse as preacher and celebrant this Sunday, Sept. 11.
Rev. Besse retired to the Vineyard in 1990 from his parish in Whitinsville. For fifteen years he served as Pastoral Assistant at Grace Church in Vineyard Haven. For many years Rev. Besse has been active with the Martha’s Vineyard Peace Council, as chairman and now as co-chair. He is also well known on the island for his long-time participation in the annual CROP Walk.
Trinity Episcopal Church in Oak Bluffs is pleased to welcome back the Rev. Canon Edward W. Rodman as celebrant on the next two Sundays, August 29 and Sept. 5. Rev. Canon Rodman is the John Seely Stone professor of pastoral theology and urban ministry at the Episcopal Divinity School in Cambridge. He is also the denominational counselor for Episcopal students at Harvard Divinity School. Over the course of a 40-year career, he has served as assistant minister at St.
Trinity Episcopal Church in Oak Bluffs welcomes the Reverend Stephanie Spellers as celebrant for this Sunday, August 1. A former Cox Fellow and minister for radical welcome at St. Paul’s Cathedral in Boston, Rev. Spellers is a consultant and member of the Episcopal Church’s Standing Commission on Domestic Mission and Evangelism, and travels the country to work with faith communities seeking to embrace cultural changes. She earned her BA from Wake Forest University and holds master’s degrees from Harvard Divinity School and the Episcopal Divinity School.
Kathryn Aaron, an established interpreter of 16th and 17th century music, will perform at Trinity Episcopal Church in Oak Bluffs, on Sunday, July 25, accompanied by Trinity organist Wesley Brown.
A graduate of the Peabody Conservatory of Music, Ms. Aaron is studying for her master’s degree at Yale’s Institute of Sacred Music. She has performed internationally and is a member of the choir of Trinity Episcopal Church in Southport, Conn.
On Sunday, Sept. 9 the preacher and celebrant at the closing service for the summer season at Trinity Episcopal Church will be the Rev. Richard L. Fenn.
The service will complete the celebration of the church’s 125th year of service to the Oak Bluffs community. As usual, the service will begin at 9 a.m. The church is in Oak Bluffs across the street from the Steamship Authority wharf.
