The Chilmark farmers must be rejoicing this week for all the rain that has fallen. If the seeds are planted, they should be sprouting soon. The shadbushes along the side of the roads popped into bloom this week and that always meant (to my grandfather, anyway) that the herring were running. I wonder if they are?

Wampum and Felt is a weekend art show opening this afternoon at the bank on Beetlebung Corner. It features Joan Lelacheur with her latest wampum creations and Heather Hall with her felted fine silk art. The reception begins at 4 p.m. this afternoon.

Well, if you need a boost because of lack of sun, you could take a ride around and enjoy the colors of the fruit trees that are in full bloom. Maybe it is my imagination, but they seem extra full this year. They certainly are beautiful.

Krya Jenkins and Rico Holley of Oak Bluffs announce the birth of a daughter, Aleeya Marie Holley, born on May 5, 2009, at the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital. Aleeya weighed 8 pounds, 2 ounces at birth.
Welcome Nicholas
Lillian M.A. Silva and Flavio daSilva of Edgartown announced the birth of a son, Nicholas Arreco Silva, born April 5 at the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital. Nicholas weighed 7 pounds, 14.4 ounces at birth.
Carol Jack and Alexander Wilson Nagi were married at Makonikey in West Tisbury on July 12, 2008.
The bride is the daughter of Carol and Hugh Jack of Napanee, Ontario, Canada.
The bridegroom is the son of Pat Nagi of West Tisbury and the late William Nagi, formerly of Fitchburg.
Marcela Roa Wandurraga and Christopher P. Habekost were married at their home in Edgartown on Feb. 7, 2009, by justice of the peace John Alley.
In attendance were Marcela’s parents Jose and Alicia Roa of Bogota, Columbia, Christopher’s parents, Frederick and Priscilla Thifault of Tisbury, and numerous members of their families.
Marcela and Christopher will continue to make their home in Edgartown with Marcela’s three children.
Rebecca Y. Palmer and Erik P. Claussen of Martha's Vineyard were married in Edgartown at the Wharf Restaurant on Feb. 15, 2009, joined by family and friends.
Rebecca is the daughter of George and Cheryl Palmer of Falmouth.
Erik is the son of Paul and Diane Claussen of Oak Bluffs.
The ceremony was officiated by Michael Vaughan of Worcester, Mass. Standing up for the bride was her brother, Jonathan Palmer of San Antonio, Tex., and for the bridegroom was his sister, Kirsten Hodges of Milford, Mass.
