The Edinburgh Fringe Festival — it’s the biggest arts festival in the world, and the drama department at the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School, under the direction of Kate Murray, has been chosen as one of the U.S. representatives for its 2010 lineup.
The students will be part of the American High School Theatre Festival troupes at the Fringe Festival in Edinburgh, Scotland, for 2010.
The Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School student newspaper The High School View took top honors with a first place award in the All-New England category in Division II from the New England Scholastic Press Association (NESPA). The award was announced May 1 by Helen F. Smith, NESPA executive director, during the organization’s annual conference at Boston University.
While the school’s student newspaper shared top honors in 2007, this year the students were the sole winner of the award.

This is the time of spring when cars parked at my house turn yellow and white. The yellow is because of the oak pollen. The oak trees near the parking area have started leafing out, and their pollen makes a fine yellow coating on any horizontal surface.
In what has fast became a rite of spring, regional high school track and field teams again dominated their annual Mayflower League meet on Tuesday at Sacred Heart in Kingston. The girls team broke three league records en route to their fourth conference title in a row and the boys staged a late rally to capture their ninth title in a row.
The ringed planet Saturn hangs high in the evening sky. On one of the clearest evenings the Vineyard has had this month, we had no trouble finding the planet right under the zodiacal constellation Leo. The planet is not as bright as we’ve seen in past years.
Student Wins Internship
Julie Pringle, a Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School junior from Tisbury, has been chosen as one of seven students from the Cape and Islands for a two-week summer internship, Careers in Marine Science.
The students will learn from scientists at many of the Woods Hole science centers, will assist with research on field trips, and will volunteer at the NOAA Woods Hole Science Aquarium.
