The Edinburgh Fringe Festival — it’s the biggest arts festival in the world, and the drama department at the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School, under the direction of Kate Murray, has been chosen as one of the U.S. representatives for its 2010 lineup.

The students will be part of the American High School Theatre Festival troupes at the Fringe Festival in Edinburgh, Scotland, for 2010.

Each school program must be nominated by theatre professionals and educators, and each is chosen based on comprehensive criteria. The Vineyarders were nominated by Emerson College graduate theatre education director Robert Colby.

To celebrate, and to begin trying to pay for the trip, the drama department’s community fund-raising group, BravEncore, will present the students under the name the PAC Rats, after their performance space, in an Evening of Edibles and Entertainment to be held at The Yard on Saturday, May 30, from 6 p.m.

Cost is $25 for adults, $15 for students and seniors.

The event includes cocktail hour, dinner and desserts, silent auction, and performances including the original award-winning play Letters, the drama department’s Year in Review, and the students’ infamous Table-side Talent Menu.
