When Aquinnah voters convene next week for the Island’s final annual town meeting, they will weigh funding for town building repairs, proposals to make the town more energy efficient and a plan to raise the town’s short-term rental tax.

Voting takes place from noon to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 9, at the town’s emergency services facility on Spring street.

After releasing an initial draft of the plan last June, the Trustees spent the year gathering public feedback on topics such as oversand vehicle access, shorebird protections and pet regulations.

A planned Mexican restaurant on Union street in Vineyard Haven took a giant step toward opening this summer when the Tisbury planning board voted 4-1 Wednesday to allow a special permit for the operation.

Richard Leonard will be this year’s recipient of the Spirit of the Vineyard Award.
