In New Book, Every Cat Gets Its Day

The Vineyard has a long history of being dog-centric. There are dogs on boats, dogs on beaches, dogs at offices. At the top of Circuit avenue there’s a shop dedicated to all things dog. And, of course, there’s the Island’s most well-known canine — the Black Dog.

Getting Back to Corn-fed Basics

This fall begins the second year of Island Grown Harvest of the Month, a program of Island Grown Schools that highlights a different locally available crop every month to encourage healthy, whole foods, seasonal eating in our schools and in the wider community.

Please Adopt Us

Just in time for Halloween, the Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard has some singular pumpkin-colored cats. A mother, Etta, and her two kittens were surrendered. One kitten has already been adopted, and the other, a laid-back male named Ray is also ready for a new home. At eight weeks old he is eating solid food, but since he is still housed with his mother, he nurses from time to time. Once he leaves the nest, so to speak, his mother’s milk will dry up and she can be spayed and ready for a new home. Orange females are quite rare.
