School Committee Gives Nod to Smith as Acting Superintendent in Split Vote

The all-Island school committee has voted for assistant superintendent Richie Smith to succeed Matthew D'Andrea as acting superintendent.

High School Classroom Briefly Evacuated

A classroom at the Martha's Vineyard Regional High School was briefly evacuated Friday morning after two teachers reported feeling dizzy, school and fire officials confirmed.

Sam Hart, coordinator of Pathways and Special Projects, said that school officials called the Oak Bluffs fire department "out of an abundance of caution." Tests conducted at the scene by fire personnel found no air contaminants, he said, and the classroom was cleared for students to return.
