A large private party planned for President Obama’s 60th birthday on the Vineyard this weekend has been canceled amid fierce public backlash and rising Covid cases, as the Delta variant spreads on the Island. The party will be scaled back to family and friends, according to a statement.

The Martha’s Vineyard Airport reported a major jam-up of private jet traffic over the weekend, much of it stemming from President Barack Obama’s 60th birthday bash. Airport manager Geoffrey Freeman said private jets crowded the tarmac at the small airport all weekend, draining fuel supplies.

World affairs intruded more than ever this year on President Obama's Vineyard vacation. But still he managed some down time. The Obamas are scheduled to leave Sunday.

I recently read letters to the editor by a Peter Robb and Michael Fontes, both which complained about President Obama’s supposed poor leadership, incompetence and failures during the first six years of his presidency.

President Obama has enjoyed a working vacation, remaining in contact with multiple international leaders and receiving briefings from his staff, deputy press secretary Eric Schultz told reporters in a Wednesday morning briefing at the Edgartown School.
